My Story
I have always loved animals! My father, who was a strong influence in my life, taught me to appreciate nature and the wild creatures.
But it was only later in life when I merged this love with my interest in photography. In 1994 I went on my first photo safari to Southern Africa and I have never been the same since that experience. Africa can cast a spell on one who visits that troubled continent and I fell under that spell. Though I have returned there many times, each safari has been a unique and memorable experience.
My travels have taken me throughout most of Southern and Eastern Africa as well as Gabon in the Congo River Basin. Tigers brought me to India and the magnificent forests of Madyar Pradesh. The lure of the elusive Jaguar led me to explore the Upper Amazon Basin and wilderness of Bolivia before I found success in the Pantanal region of Brazil. Bears and wolves took me to Yellowstone and the great Katmai peninsula of Alaska. Many places have I gone and many places still remain. Some, like Sumatra, may be beyond my reach. The Polar Regions beckon, as does the continent of Australia.
Some animals like the Mountain Lion of North America and feral horses in the American West remain to be photographed. Others like the Snow Leopard will remain an challenging goal. Yet the excitement of the next safari still drives me onward to capture and document these wonderful creatures in their natural environment before they slip away forever. Few others who share my affection for wildlife will ever be able to see and experience them as I have in the wild. Through my photographs and stories, I hope to give them a sense of what it was like to be with these creatures.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then perhaps my photographs will be a wonderful book of nature.
